When I look at my dashboard, I get confused… This is probably because I’m new, but nevertheless I think the dashboard should be straightforward…
First my numbers:
total assets investments: $-2,366.50 savings: $7,529.57 total: $5,163.07 available today: $29.57
My stocks: Who will be the 2008 Republican candidate for President? John McCain close position up $3.85 SHARES: 25 TRADE PRICE: $36.28 TOTAL PAID: $907.09 CURRENT PRICE: $37.61
Will India win the India-Sri Lanka One-Day International Series for 2007? IndiaSriLankaODI2007 purchased with credit close position down $167.77 SHARES: 75 TRADE PRICE: $46.02 TOTAL PAID: $3,451.27 CURRENT PRICE: $44.53
Which city will be selected to host the 2016 Olympics? Dubai close position down $0.41 SHARES: 5 TRADE PRICE: $6.63 TOTAL PAID: $33.14 CURRENT PRICE: $6.60
So here are my questions: 1) My investments are -2366.50, but I calculate the stocks (total paid): 907.09 – 3451.27 + 33.14 = -2511.04 which differs 144.54?? The second number is negative as I bought those shares on credit.
2) Up and down status. What do they mean? it is not my current result… So I guess its today’s performance? Nope its not as the John McCain is listed in the market overview as 0.00 for today. So what does it mean? I actually would rather like to see how I am performing with my stocks (investment vs current price)... Wouldn’t this be better?
3) total assets vs available How can I have a total assets of 5163.07 and only have 29.57 avalailable to me? Is this because of the savings and the shares on credit? 75 shares on credit * 100 = 7500 thus only 29.57 left?
After my questions I think the assets block could be better designed like this:
Investments: 940.14 CV: 3339.75 Savings: 7529.57
-—-—-—-—-—— Total Assets: 5129.96
- CV = Credit Value = today’s value of the stocks you sold on credit
Savings: 7529.57 CS: 7500
-—-—-—-—-—- Available for trading: 29.57
- CS = Credit Security = Security against bankrupcy for stocks bought on credit (100 x number of stocks on credit)
Thanx for helping me understand…
