Topic: For Traders / Market not cashed out when it should be

We’ve contacted the owner of all these Mississippi markets. If he doesn’t close them in the next 24 hours we’ll take care of it from here.

Topic: For Traders / Market not cashed out when it should be

In the meantime by the way, all the markets listed on this page that hadn’t been closed out, I just took care of. The best way still to deal with this is to just email us at support@inklingmarkets.com and someone will try to get to it, sometimes more quickly than not.

Topic: For Traders / Market not cashed out when it should be

I like the idea of having a couple people in the community able to cash out markets. Anyone want to volunteer to be an Inkling “intern?” :)

Topic: For Traders / Not Cashed out - How is this best handled?

Thanks for letting us know – both these markets have now been cashed out.

Topic: Feature Requests / pretty URLs for markets

We actually have this for marketplaces but not for individual markets. Interesting suggestion though; we’ll definitely keep it in mind…

Topic: Feature Requests / Need to organize my dashboard

Good suggestions – we actually just had a meeting yesterday and talked about the next few things to address. The dashboard was one of them. We’re going to build some additional filters on that page much like we have on the market directory page. If you (or anyone reading this) has any other ideas for the dashboard, let us know. We’ve also heard from folks that they would like to see the low and high prices of the stock so we’ll likely be including that as well.

Topic: Feature Requests / Update email address?

Actually you need to write to us from the old account and tell us what you want it changed to and we will do it for you. We don’t allow people to change their email address for security reasons.

Topic: For Traders / Market not cashed out when it should be

Yeah, this is one of the issues we face with “do it yourself” markets. Sometimes the market makers aren’t so good at closing things out. Usually we go ahead and close them out after a week or two if the market maker isn’t responding. Thanks for bringing it to our attention…

Topic: For Traders / Dashboard: Up/Down not as useful as they could be

Dysk,

Can you please clarify your comment?

If you go to directory/closed markets, then go in to any market, it shows two prices: the last closed price and what the stocks were cashed out at. Are you not seeing this?

We’re checking in a code change to do what “sircu5” suggests tonight – so the up/down value will now be what you are worth IF you cashed out.

Topic: Feature Requests / More information in email notification of new markets

Hamish,

Totally agree – new market alerts suck right now and we’ll add it to the list of things to work on to include some additional information. Title and description will be a good start. Also, RSS feeds are coming but I’ve been saying that for awhile so unfortunately I can’t give you an exact date – just know that we know people want them and they will hopefully be worked on soon.

Topic: Feature Requests / More per-market information in the Dashboard

Sparklines would probably be too much to ask for for now, but we can certainly look in to putting percentage up/down in to the dashboard for the last 24 hours or since you logged in last. We’re also working on price alerts you will be able to set up per stock which will help you keep track if anything has changed.

Thanks for your comment – we’ve gone back and forth on these various calculations quite a bit; we’ll definitely consider changing this – it has indeed always been odd that the dashboard shows you are “up” after making a trade but if you indeed sold back the shared and cashed out the position before anyone else traded, your profit would be $0.

Topic: Feature Requests / Credit and Savings Requirements

Marke,

Interesting points re: shorting. I can’t tell you how many discussions we’ve had about shorting: 1) how to design it so it’s as intuitive as possible to people, and 2) what our policy should be so you can’t screw yourself.

You make some very interesting points and we’ll definitely consider them when we revisit this, which is on a fairly regular basis. But onemike is right – ultimately, we can’t go after your house, car, or dog, so we have to be restrictive in the policy. One of these days we may try to introduce real money somehow – but then you’ll start hearing about guys with cement shoes ending up in the river because they didn’t cover their shorts on Inkling. :)

Topic: Feature Requests / Marketplace homepage

If you noticed, we’ve slightly re-done our homepage and have also introduced a marketplace “homepage” so once you login, you now see a “home” button in the upper left.

We like the idea of the marketplace having a homepage to potentially put some composite graphs, etc. on there – but we wanted to leave it open to folks to suggest stuff to put on there. We can’t promise anything, but if anyone has any suggestions, we would appreciate hearing them. One thing we are definitely doing in the next week or so is showing the next 5 or 10 markets to expire so you can always see what’s about to close…

if you cover all our expenses, sell our houses at a handsome profit, and find us prime real estate in another country + broadband, we’ll make it happen. :)

we would have to move to another country and even then our U.S. based friends may not even be able to use the site based on the law that just passed recently.

Topic: Feature Requests / Loans?

ah apple, you actually hit on something we’ve been tossing around as a way to introduce real money in to the system – check out Second Life and linden dollars. we’re thinking of doing something similar where you can buy and sell currency through an auction system for real money. It won’t happen for awhile because we’re hyper focused on corporate stuff right now but hopefully in the next 3-6 months we’ll try and make it happen…What do you think?

Topic: Feature Requests / Discussion Boards?

Just wanted to close out this thread and let everyone know discussion boards are now available per market. Coming soon: RSS tracking of the discussions, and we still also like Apple’s idea of automatic disclosures of people who own shares in the market they are commenting on so that may get in soon as well.

Topic: Feature Requests / New market publisher

Just wanted to let everyone here know we pushed a new market publisher very late last night. It doesn’t add a lot of new functionality per se, but we think it really cleans up the flow of how a market is created (i.e. if you’re creating a one stock market you aren’t asked to enter market info and stock info). We would appreciate feedback as you begin to use it and definitely send us any bugs you find. Thanks!

This is coming soon, actually. We were asked to build it for one of our clients so our public site will get updated as well with the same functionality. Should happen within 2 weeks.

Topic: For Marketplace Administrators / Insider trading logic?

I like giving people the option when they create the market;

we do look at the markets before they get published obviously so it should be very clear whether or not taking advantage of insider trading re: what laxrulz points out would happen or not. That said, who’s to say the anonymous user isn’t someone actually in the know – we would certainly not know otherwise.

Topic: For Marketplace Administrators / Insider trading logic?

tcp, you are right; you have no inside knowledge of a political situation so it doesn’t seem right to bar you from trading in that market. however, given this is a public “do it yourself” marketplace and the founders of Inkling are not all-knowing :) , there are other markets where someone may indeed have insider knowledge and in that case we don’t really want them trying to manipulate the market. Thus we made the blanket decision of not allowing you to trade in your own markets.

Of course as you say you can have two accounts; one for market making and one for trading, but at least if you see the message about insider trading it will make you think twice about trading in a market where you may indeed have insider knowledge in the future.

Topic: For Marketplace Administrators / Evolution vs intelligent design market

We thought about not allowing this on the site and we actually talked to the market maker and agreed it would be an interesting experiment to try and have a “tracking market” that would in essence never end. If after awhile it’s lame we’ll probably end the market and refund people’s inkles but for now we’ll let it run awhile to see what happens – you can always day trade it.
